Great quality and consistency are awarded once again. Tabali has recently been chosen among the Top 100 Wineries of 2019 by Wine & Spirits Magazine. This is an annual list that only includes the wineries around the world with the most exceptional wines.
The Top 100 Wineries is an extraordinary accolade. Each year, the critics and judges blind taste more than 11,000 wines, looking for the most distinctive wines to present to the readers. The Top 100 Wineries earned the highest scores in the tastings this year, with the most consistent performances over a range of wines.
Some of the wines that were considered for this important recognition were:
• Talinay Sauvignon Blanc 2018 with 95 points, described as “Vinified and aged in stainless steel, this wine is all about minerals. Then there’s the rich, tropical complexity of the fruit, opening to guava, then tightening to orchard-fruit flavors of pear and Granny Smith apple. The wine’s clarity and oceanic refreshment have a particularly Chilean savoir faire. This would be fascinating to follow as it ages, and mouthwatering to drink now with any fresh catch”.
• Vetas Blancas Syrah 2016 scored with 92 points and described as: “This grows at the edge of the Atacama Desert, on a terrace above the Limarí River, 15 miles from the Pacific. It’s tightly framed at first, a little reduced and cannabis-green, relaxing into a rich, luxurious red as it opens with air. It builds to huckleberry and plum flavors, with green-peppercorn accents that last. Decant it for duck roasted with cherries”.
• Talinay Pinot Noir 2017 which got 91 points and the following comments: “This grows at the same vineyard as Tabalí’s sauvignon blanc recommended here, a coastal site with pure white limestone soil. Felipe Müller takes the fruit through a weeklong cold soak, ferments it cool in stainless steel, then ages it for a year in French oak barrels. Other than that oak influence, there’s little to tie this to other pinot noir— it’s more Chileno than varietal in its flavors. There’s a cactus note underlying the beefy complexity, warm, round and spicy, with an herbal, thyme-like flavor that lasts. The tannins are dry, the wine needing rare roast beef to show its best”.
The selected wineries in the Top 100 2019 list will attend the Top 100 event in San Francisco to be celebrated in October 10th.
